BIBLE READING: Matthew 24:44.

The need to communicate:

Throughout history, it has always been necessary to communicate. It was essential to have to deliver news from one place to another. At first he was a loud voice, messengers, then with other media such as smoke signals, drums, whistles, written mail, telegraph, the first radio, the first telephone, the first TV, the first computer, the first website (Internet), and now we have “all-in-one-device” at hand.

The need is to communicate important news. Thanks to Marconi, today ambulances have a radio system with which to locate an injured, and report about the situation before reaching the hospital. Now, what the TV News or newspaper would be if there were no news to tell?

The importance of the message.

I remember a Spanish Adventist missionary who worked in Cameroon, a funny thing happened with a young man. There was a fire where he lived. They needed the cooperation of people from another village. The pastor called a young man with the intention of sending for help. He said: “Run! Run to…!” Immediately before knowing where to go and what to say, the young just rushed out. A few meters away, he stopped and turned back to the pastor, and asked: “Where do I have to go and what do I have to say?”

A messenger without a message is useless, as it would be a newspaper without news. More useless would be an emergency message without whom we convey. God has always had messages to give to mankind, and it has needed messengers who knew what they had to say at all times.

I. God has a message for every age of history.

1.     God uses human beings.

God uses human beings to give a message to the world. The angels are willing to give that message by themselves, to preach the Gospel. But their purpose is to help us do the job, not preach themselves. So it is our responsibility to have to preach to the world, according to Mark 16:15. God has given his people a message to be preached in every moment of history. Everyone who has belonged to God’s people throughout history, has had a message to give to your neighbor.

2.     The present Truth.

The message especially stressed at a particular time, has been called “the present truth”.

“The Scriptures are constantly opening to the people of God. There always has been and always will be a truth specially applicable to each generation.” (RH June 29, 1886, par. 9).

During the history of this world has been preachers who gave a message, which had something to say especially his generation.

3.     Others preached the Present Truth.

1.     Noah.

Noah received from God a message to be proclaimed in his days (Gen. 6:13-22). Noah had to announce the flood (13). At no other time in history is going to repeat the flood, therefore, that was the present truth to the times of Noah.

Ellen G. White says:

“The message given to Noah was present truth for that time; and if the people had accepted that message, they would have been saved from drinking the waters of the flood.” (RH June 29, 1886, par. 9).

The warning message was accompanied by one of mercy, the forgiveness of God. If only I had paid serious attention…

2.     Moses.

Moses had a message that could not be repeated in other places and times. Moses’ voice sounded seven times at pharaoh’s palace, with the message: “Let my people go”. (Ex. 5:1; 7:16; 8:1,20; 9:1,13; 10:3). No one else could ever repeat the same message with the same implications.

3.     Jonah.

Jonah and his message for Nineveh from God. (16) Nineveh was going to be destroyed in 40 days id they didn’t repent (Jonah 3:1-5). This time the message was heard and God’s mercy gave fruits.

4.     John the Baptist.

Another messenger with a present truth was John the Baptist. His voice could be heard among the desert dunes and by the Jordan river: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” (Mt. 3:2)

All these messages were present truth for their times. They are still “Truth” but NOT “present” truth. Why we can not preach those messages? We can preach ABOUT these messages, but NOT these messages.

God has a plan for this world, a plan for each one of us. Go’s plan is developing before our eyes, stage by stage.

ILUSTRATION: If we could have a map for the history, and a GPS to travel through it, how would it work? It would tell us the critical points, crossroads, dangers, turns. A GPS does the same, but when there’s no present truth, keeps silence, but the image for now. When we reach the critical points in the journey, then is when the GPS becomes active and “speaks”, telling where to turn, and with what we have to be careful.

II. Fulfilling Prophecies.

1. The message and the prophecy.

The message for each moment depends on a prophecy ready to be fulfilled. Thus, indicates the way to follow in the History of the Plan of Redemption. “Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7).

1.     Noah.

His prophecy was: 120 years and the earth will be destroyed. (Gn. 6:3). There was a message of warning and repentance to be preached before the fulfillment.

2.     Moses.

In Moses’ days there was to happen the fulfillment of an old prophecy, (Gn. 15:13), ending with the slavery of Israel for 400 years. It was God’s moment, and sent someone.

3.     Jonah.

God was to destroy Nineveh in 40 days. Would it have been fair to destroy an entire people without a message of warning and repentance?

4.     John the Baptist.

What prophetic period of time was reaching its fulfillment on John the Baptist days? The 70 weeks of Daniel (Dn. 9:24). The Messiah was already born and his ministry was ready to begin (Dn. 9; Is. 56, etc.).

2. Jesus, prophecy and prophet.

In Jesus all the Old Testament prophecies converge. He IS the Present Truth for every moment in history. Every present truth had a common point: Repentance. Without faith in one Savior, Noah wouldn’t be able to survive the flood, neither Nineveh could had a second chance. Without Jesus, John the Baptist wouldn’t be able to give any message of repentance.

3. Salvation to every people.

Jesus came to fulfill that needed ingredient in every present truth. To substitute the sinner who received the present truth for that moment. Every messenger focused in his message for that particular moment, each one was different from the others. But ALL of them had the same common basis: Salvation in the Divine Redeemer.

4. More present truths.

Early church proclaimed the Gospel and grew. But after centuries, left its first love. Waldensians took their stand, followed by Hus, Wicleff, and… Luther.

Which was Luther’s present truth? “Only Faith, only Grace, only Scripture”. The Reformation gave place to the nowadays protestant denominations.

Out of these denominations sprang out a prophetic movement. The Seventh Day Adventist Pioneers stood up with a powerful message.

III. Our message for the world today.

1.     Fulfilling prophecies nowadays.

Many people in the Bible have dreamed of living in time where they could see the consummation of history. Some of them saw that moment in visions or dreams, other heard of it through the prophets. But none of them could precede that moment as we do.

The second coming of Jesus in glory is the great prophecy that prompted our early predecessors.

The Second Coming of Jesus is called in the Bible “the coming of the Son of man” (Dn. 7:13; Mt. 10:23; 16:27; 19:28; 24:27,30,37,39,44; 25:31; 26:64; Mr. 13:26; 14:62; Lk. 9:26; 12:40; 17:24,26,30; 18:8; 21:27),  “the day of the wrath of the Lord” (Is. 13:9,13; Ez. 7:19; Joel 2:11,31; Zep. 1:14,18; 2:2; Mal. 4:5) , “the day of judgment” (Mt. 11:24; 12:36; Mr. 6:11; Ro. 2:5; 2Pe 3:7; Jude 1:6), and in other many ways. This day are rewarded many sufferings, hopes and desires.

The ancient people could preach about this, as something far in the future, but not as THE MESSAGE as we can do it NOW. But, before it happens, something has to be done firs.

2.     Condiciones para el cumplimiento.

Jesus gave us the important task of preaching the gospel to every nation, people, tribe and tongue (Mt. 28:18-20). He said: “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Mt. 24:14).

The condition in order to see this prophecy fulfilled, is a people ready to meet with their God. A world warned of what is going to happen. It’s a message unparalleled in history.

We all agree so far. We all try our best in preaching the Gospel. We try to take a chance on every opportunity. How many times have happened to you that you shared or witnessed to someone, and after all you felt like if something important was missing? We feel like we didn’t say or tell the most important point! What is our message for today? Is the sabbath? (With the crisis “I do not want to lose my job”…) Is vegetarianism? Is tithe? Is not belonging to an apostate church? Which is our PRESENT TRUTH? What is the most important truth that everybody MUST know?

3.     Our message today.

Our message today for ourselves and for our fellow people is a message of mercy to a doomed world. The prophecy of the Second Coming is the prophecy that conditions our message. We are in urgent need of preaching the Present Truth for our days. Do you want to know which is the Present Truth for today?:

“God’s message for the inhabitants of earth today is, “Be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” Matthew 24:44.

The conditions prevailing in society, and especially in the great cities of the nations, proclaim in thunder tones that the hour of God’s judgment is come and that the end of all things earthly is at hand. We are standing on the threshold of the crisis of the ages. In quick succession the judgments of God will follow one another—fire, and flood, and earthquake, with war and bloodshed. We are not to be surprised at this time by events both great and decisive; for the angel of mercy cannot remain much longer to shelter the impenitent. {PK 278.1}

The church of Christ is God’s agency for the proclamation of truth; she is empowered by Him to do a special work; and if she is loyal to God, obedient to His commandments, there will dwell within her the excellency of divine power. If she will be true to her allegiance, there is no power that can stand against her. The forces of the enemy will be no more able to overwhelm her than is the chaff to resist the whirlwind. {PK 259.3}

There is before the church the dawn of a bright, glorious day, if she will put on the robe of Christ’s righteousness, withdrawing from all allegiance to the world. {PK 260.1}

God calls upon His faithful ones, who believe in Him, to talk courage to those who are unbelieving and hopeless.” {PK 260.2}

Our church is condemned, but to success!!! Our message is given in Matthew 24:44. We must to tell the world that “Jesus is coming soon”. And this church will succeed in the task.

The church will succeed with you, or without you. The church will succeed with you, or despite you. The question is: Will you be in the church when this happens? Will you be taking part of this success?

This is a message to wake up the people. Once they know what is going to happen, then those who hear the voice of God, will ask us “What shall we do to be saved?” Then, and ONLY then, they will be ready to listen to the three angels message found in Revelation 14:6 – 12.

Our message is “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Mt. 24:44) This is not a message of condemnation, but a message of HOPE, to redeem the world. This message is in our denomination name. This message has to be present and characterize ourselves, our way of communicate, our way of behave and our preaching.

Now we DO know what to preach, what to communicate. The words are easy, God never asks more of what we can do. Today you have the core, the essence, the condensed message in a shell for these days. Now we have something to tell the world.

Noah, John, Elijah, Jonah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Hosea, and a very long list of names have been faithful spokespersons with a message given by God. Their voices were heard loud, clear an to the point. They all left open the path so those lost ones could come bak to God.

That list is prolonged till nowadays. In that list you may find your names, yours and mine. Many of them would have loved to proclaim the message given to you and me, but they were faithful in doing their task.

We are many people for one same message. The effort is smaller compared to them, but the responsibility is the same. Now we are messengers with a message. It’s our turn in this battle between good and evil. God expects us to be faithful speakers of His word. Not even Ourselves know when will Jesus come again. But what we YES can do is being caught preaching at that moment.
